WA: Tidal surges in WA to continue throughout the day

Meteorologists say unusual tidal surges are still hitting Western Australia's coastline
following the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.

Weather forecasters in WA admit they don't know exactly how long the localised effects
of the undersea quake will last, but they expect the metre higher surges to last for the
rest of today at least.

Duty forecaster GRANT ELLIOTT says the bureau doesn't know what ripples from the quake
remain in the basin.

The first waves arrived on the west coast on Sunday afternoon and continued into the
evening and yesterday.

Tidal surges have been reported from Geraldton in the north to Busselton in the south,
where two people were rescued after tidal surges swept them out to sea.
