A 71/2-foot statue of the late Harold Washington began presidingover a bustling Bronzeville intersection Tuesday, as the city'snewest public artwork was unveiled outside a cultural center namedfor Chicago's first black mayor.
"This is a beautiful day, because we welcome Harold home," saidAld. Dorothy Tillman (3rd), champion of the $19.5 million center atthe southeast corner of 47th and King Drive. "This is something thatis going to live on for a long time for our children."
