NSW: Teachers demand protection from violent student attacks
New South Wales teachers warn they could take legal action against the Education Departmentif it doesn't take measures to protect them from student violence.
Teachers' Federation president MAREE O'HALLORAN has also demanded the department immediatelyrelease to the union the critical incident reports filed every time a teacher is attacked.
Ms O'HALLORAN says a teacher and teachers' aide should be present in classes for emotionallydisturbed children, and teachers should be told if a student has a history of violentbehaviour.
She says teachers believe the government is stockpiling critical incident reports butfailing to implement preventive measures.
And she says while the department reports violence in schools hasn't increased in recentyears, anecdotal evidence suggests otherwise.
Comment is being sought from the department.
