Qld: ALP says it will expel 19 rorters

BRISBANE, Dec 15 AAP - Nineteen members of the Queensland Labor Party, who have confessed
to vote-rigging, were today told to quit or face expulsion.

Deputy Premier Terry Mackenroth said letters of demand had been posted today to 19
members who had confessed to rorting at the Shepherdson Inquiry.

Mr Mackenroth said 13 ALP members had already resigned after admitting to rorting at the inquiry.

He said the high-powered tribunal appointed to deal with rorters would meet next Tuesday
to begin proceedings against any of the 19 members who did not resign.

The tribunal would then recommend appropriate discipline for those members to the party's
state administrative committee, he said.

"(Premier) Peter Beattie promised to deal swiftly with any party members who have admitted
to electoral rorting that has tarnished the name of so many hardworking and dedicated
Labor Party members," Mr Mackenroth said.

"That is exactly what we are doing."
